Scottish Major Sporting Events Calendar
Updated for 2027
Scotland hosts major sporting events throughout the year, from international championships and professional tournaments to mass-participation races and outdoor competitions.
We’ve created this Scottish Major Sporting Events Calendar to make it easier to find some of the biggest and most significant sporting events taking place across Scotland in one place.
Rather than listing every local race or competition, the calendar focuses on events that can attract competitors, clubs, supporters and spectators from across Scotland, the UK and beyond. These are events that can give people a reason to travel, stay overnight and explore more of the country while they are here.
The calendar includes a wide range of sports, from golf, cycling and mountain biking to running, athletics, curling, motorsport, gymnastics, equestrian events and triathlon. Some are major spectator events, while others are particularly significant for the people taking part.
For visitors, a sporting event can also be a great starting point for a wider Scottish adventure. You might travel to Edinburgh for a major race, head to Fife for a golf tournament, visit the Highlands for a mountain-bike event or follow a cycling route through several parts of the country.

Planning a Trip Around a Sporting Event
A major sporting event doesn’t have to be the only reason for your visit. If you’re travelling from elsewhere in the UK or overseas, it can be an opportunity to build a longer trip around the event and explore more of Scotland before or afterwards.
Scotland’s geography makes this particularly appealing for outdoor events. A competition in one part of the country can easily be combined with walking, cycling, sightseeing, coastal trips, mountains or visits to towns and villages along the way.
For competitors, travelling with all the equipment you need can also be a consideration. Depending on the sport and the type of trip you’re planning, a campervan can provide a flexible way to travel between locations while carrying your kit with you.
For visitors arriving without their own outdoor equipment, Scotlander offers campervan and outdoor equipment hire near Edinburgh, providing a starting point for exploring Scotland by road.
Whether you’re travelling to compete, support someone taking part or simply watch a major event, the sporting calendar can be a useful starting point for planning a wider Scottish adventure.
