Our Guide To Camping In Scotland

Would you like to know the essentials to camping in Scotland? Here is our top tips to guide you on your way.

If your planning to camp in Scotland we suggest that you pack light, wear good quality walking boots and have warm water proof clothing as it can get cold and wet at a moments notice any time of year. Remember to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code at all times.

Get a Smaller Tent

Even if you’re not planning on camping solo there are quite a few benefits to getting a smaller tent:
  • Cheaper
  • Faster and easier to build
  • Stealthier
  • You will be able to camp in more places i.e. inside a tree line or bushes
  • Easier to carry around

Packing light has many benefits so think twice before bringing something along on your camping adventure that might just slow you down. This will help whether your camping solo or with a group of friends.

You don’t want to be that guy that slows everyone up because you bought a
big luxury tent that takes an absolute age to disassemble. Then of course you will be lugging it around with you.

Just keep in mind that you can pretty much camp anywhere in Scotland so being able assemble base camp quickly and then move off somewhere else is a huge advantage when you want to visit Scotland.

A smaller tent is also much stealthier, I myself like camping to get away from people. The last thing you want is someone bothering you when your trying to get some shut eye or a dog walker trying to make small talk with you when your just waking up in the morning.

What to wear:

  • If your splashing the cash a sturdy pair of walking boots should be a priority
  • Make sure you have warm and waterproof clothes (Have a spare set of clothes)
  • Trusty old thermal socks (espiecially in the winter)
  • A rucksack for all the essential things you will need to carry whilst camping

A good pair of boots and some thermal socks is the staple of a seasoned Scottish camper.

In case you weren’t aware Scotland isn’t exactly flat so you will probably be climing some hills especially if you want to see the best views.

The weather in Scotland can change at a moments notice, it doesnt matter if its a hot summers day… always expect rain and thats why you should always have a some spare waterproof clothing with you.

Follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code:

  • Respect the interests of others.
  •  Care for the environment.
  • Take responsibility for your own actions.

BUDGET FRIENDLY

A camping staycation in Scotland is the perfect way to explore the outdoors, immerse yourself in nature and relax away from the busy bustle of city life. One of the many great things about a camping getaway in Scotland is that it’s one of the most budget-friendly accommodation options that won’t break the bank, but doesn’t skip out on an authentic Scottish experience. Whether you fancy a coastal getaway, a woodland stay or a mountainside location, there are plenty destinations in Scotland to choose from.

TIPS AND GUIDELINES

Here are some helpful tips and guidelines to keep in mind as your pack up your tent and travel around Scotland:

• Head to places that are away from houses and fields with livestock.

• Avoid overcrowding by moving on to another location if it’s already a busy spot.

• Wherever possible, use a stove rather than an open fire. Never light an open fire during dry periods or in sensitive places like forests or peaty ground, where fires can easily spread out of control.

• Take away your rubbish and consider picking up other litter as well. It is also essential to bring the correct equipment with you to stay safe and comfortable when you’re enjoying Scotland’s lush greenery and landscapes!
